Justine Greening: We must create jobs and help children into school

Sunday 24 January 2016

UK International Development Secretary, Justine Greening, has emphasised the need for the Supporting Syria and the Region conference next week to help create jobs and get Syrian refugee children into school. Speaking on Sky News’ Murnaghan programme today, she said:

The conference isn’t just about raising more funding to help UN and NGOs provide day to day support, we’re also galvanising support for Jordan and Lebanon to be able to help create jobs for refugees in those countries and to help make sure that every Syrian refugee child is in school by the end of this coming academic year.

We want to help them to do what they want to do, which is to stay near home. Coming to Europe is not their first choice.
